News Interns work with professional Staff and other interns in producing news with training on the job
May write copy
Interview sources
Record audio
Voice stories for daily newscasts & feature news stories
May archive news copy
Manage audio files
Other duties as assigned

GPA of 3.0 in college or HS
Dependability
Curiosity
Ability to work with small team
Computer & typing skills
Self-starter
Excellent speaking & writing skills
Interest in learning about public radio
ability to meet and relate to people who might be sources
Writing samples and professional and/or personal references required
Must audition in studio

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in radio or print news reporting
Digital audio editing software
Filing FOIA requests
Handling weather or public safety emergency coverage

Special Requirements

Ability to research digital news sources
Practice of reading substantial daily news in print or online
Must use correct grammar at all times
Must be diplomatic but firm and persistent in asking tough questions
May opt to join on-air team fundraising if interested
Must have valid Driver’s License
