Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Career Counselor/Internship Coordinator will coordinate the Internship/Cooperative Education program and assist students with the preparation of resumes and job searching, as well as provide assistance to members of the Murray State community, including alumni, faculty and staff.

• Administrative oversight of the Internship/Cooperative Education program.
• Assisting with retention initiatives and serving on the President’s Commission on Retention.
• Assisting in creating and supporting campus-wide experiential education initiatives.
• Coaching Murray State University students and alumni in matters pertaining to selecting a career path.
• Promotion and implementation of Internship/Cooperative Education program opportunities across academic colleges, departments and to all MSU students.
• Work as a liaison between students, faculty, and employers in establishing the validity of an Internship/Cooperative Education opportunity.
• Actively seeking Internship/Cooperative Education or Internship opportunities either locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.
• Providing guidance to undeclared students admitted ‘conditionally’ and ‘unconditionally’ regarding their selection of an academic Area or Major.
• Providing timely information about Internship/Cooperative Education opportunities to academic departments.
• Posting Internship/Cooperative Education job opportunities to the Racer Tracks web site.
• Maintaining the Racer Tracks web site with timely Internship/Cooperative Education opportunities.
• Providing presentations about the services and resources of the Career Services office to classes or organizations.
• Provide support for Career Services sponsored events such as Career Fairs, on-campus interviews.
• Serve as a liaison with special interest group in regards to internship/cooperative education opportunities such as Walt Disney World.
• Coaching Murray State University students and alumni in matters directly related to finding a full or part-time position of employment.
• Serve as instructor of record for GUI Internship classes.
• Assist with planning and implementing major office events such as Career Fairs, Senior meetings, in-office interviews, graduation survey, etc.
• Assisting with new faculty Academic Advising training sessions.

Minimum Education Requirements

• Master’s degree is required in Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field.

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements

• Minimum two years of professional work experience required.
• Evidence of exceptional interpersonal communication and public speaking skills and knowledge of current job search techniques that include preparation of resumes, cover letters, and interview skills required.
• Must possess the ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and relate to a diverse population.
• Evidence of experience with personal computers, including word-processing, spreadsheet, database management, and the internet.
