Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Directs and coordinates, either through subordinate supervisory personnel or directly, activities of employees in building maintenance inclusive of building trades, painting, plumbing, electrical, elevators, locksmiths, environmental systems and central heating and cooling and projects.

• Responsible for project management within the FM Trades Shops, including budget and expenditure control. This includes providing specific information for determining number of personnel required, supplies, and materials needed and determines need for new and/or special equipment.
• Responsible for operating within the approved budget.
• Periodic preparations of specifications for bid of major supply, equipment and minor construction projects.
• Follows and maintains proper accounting and MSU procedures.
• Studies and develops methods for improving trade operations.
• Studies and develops methods for energy savings through building systems.
• Communicates with and receives inquiries from the campus community regarding work requests, delays, repair, maintenance (deferred, preventative, and operating) and renovation projects.
• Establishes and maintains schedules for preventative and general maintenance programs.
• Assists with training programs for employee development to improve work performance and safety practices.
• Manages the access control program of the University by controlling the production of keys, the installation and maintenance of all locks and the security and dispersal of all combinations.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Facilities Officer.

Minimum Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements

• 5 years of progressive experience in supervision of public facilities, maintenance, or similar operations is required.
• Experience in project management.
• Professional Engineer Licenses required.
• Works on feet for extended periods of time.
• Works 5 days per week and additional as required by the Director/VP.
